Avoid the Mocker’s Chair

Catholic men face mockery in the workplace, online, and sometimes even in parish communities. The Fathers of the Church remind us that mockery—the language of scoffers—is a weapon of the proud that tears down virtue and hides contempt behind sarcasm. But reverence, not ridicule, is the mark of a man who fears God. Be known for reverence, not ridicule. Abstain from sarcasm for 24 hours. Compliment someone you’d normally criticize. Watch your social media habits—are they mocking or meaningful?

Be known for reverence, not ridicule.

Suggestions for the Day

  • Abstain from sarcasm for 24 hours.
  • Compliment someone you’d normally criticize.
